Can You Be Healthy Eating from the Grocery Store?

Industrial Food and Commercial Medicine

Just yesterday I got the news that my friend’s 32 year old daughter has a cancerous tumor in her eyelid.

Only 32 years old and she is now trying to figure her way through the oncologists and radiologists and a byzantine maze of medical specialists.  None of whom will take responsibility for anything.

I am sure you’ve heard some of the new reports showing that for the first time in over 200 years, life expectancy is going down.  Statistically, our children will not live as long as us.

It was just a statistic to me until yesterday.

Childhood Obesity

Right now, the numbers only show the kids living a few years less than the current adult population.  But this is only the tip of the iceberg.  It is expected to get worse and worse.

“We’re in the quiet before the storm,” Dr. Ludwig said in a recent New York Times article. “It’s like what happens if suddenly a massive number of young children started chain smoking. At first you wouldn’t see much public health impact.” He added, “But years later it would translate into emphysema, heart disease and cancer.”

Dr. Ludwig is an author of a report published in The New England Journal of Medicine that focuses on the effects of childhood obesity.

“There is an unprecedented increase in prevalence of obesity at younger and younger ages without much obvious public health impact,” Dr. Ludwig said. “But when they start developing heart attack, stroke, kidney failures, amputations, blindness, and ultimately death at younger ages, then that could be a huge effect on life expectancy.”

Eating Only from the Grocery Store

My friend’s daughter exercises regularly and believes she is eating a healthy diet.  But most of her diet comes from the commercial supply.  She isn’t obese, but yes, a little heavy.  Actually it really looks great on her – curvaceous, you know?  I know she tries to avoid processed foods, but from her shape you can see she eats it.  The weight aside, malnutrition is the elephant in the room for Americans.  The commercial food is grown in depleted soils, and you can’t magically get minerals out when none are there.

Personally, I don’t think you can get enough nutrition if you only eat foods from a regular supermarket.

And no, I also don’t believe that popping a One-A-Day will rectify poor nutrition.  Some supplementation is a good thing, but be very careful of the source.

Fanatic About Food

One of the most difficult things to face up to is that you really have to be a fanatic to be healthy these days.  Sometimes I hesitate to say anything when I see someone who is sick, because really, lifestyle changes are a deeply personal decision.  And you never know how someone will react when you bring up points that are from a vastly different viewpoint than the mainstream noise.

The medical system is so overbearing with its authority and control of the legal system, what place is there for a tiny voice of common sense?  And from a woman with no credentials, who typically is barefoot and has dirt under her nails?

I could send her information from the bevy of other experts who offer natural alternatives.  And I probably will.  But she is in shock right now, and up to her ears in her own research on what the current medical system offers.  Since the situation is acute and she is so overwhelmed, I think it is best for her to find her way in the current medical system until this crisis period has passed.

True Health is Holistic

Here is a basic truth that I know: the cause of disease on the physical level is toxicity and malnutrition.

I say “physical level,” because there are certainly emotional, mental, and spiritual causes of disease too.

But the physical level absolutely has to be addressed.

We know that if you don’t get enough vitamin C, you get scurvy.  We know that without enough iron, you get anemia.  We know that if you don’t get enough niacin, you get pellagra.  Every nutrient deficiency has correlated diseases.

Do I need to go into the thousands of studies correlating toxins with disease?

One of the simplest ways to help your body remove toxins is movement.  So yes, physical activity is vital.

See – the idea is really simple, and you already knew it too.

Toxins in the Grocery Store and Elsewhere

There is both very poor nutrition, and high toxicity, from eating the commercial food supply.  But our world is filled with toxins.  From some very surprising places too.  Have you ever seen the video The Story of Stuff?  I’ll post it up for you to watch, in case you haven’t seen it (Watch The Story of Stuff here).  The video is mostly about how much trash we are creating, but it also touches on the sheer toxicity of everything – even your bed and pillows.  And you probably spend about 8 intimate hours with those every single night, yes?  The flame retardants on most bedding are full of known carcinogens.

That is what I meant about you have to be a fanatic.  Even your bed may be straining your immune system.

You might even have to be fanatical enough to start growing your own food to be healthy.  Imagine that.

From Garden to Grocery Store

Until recently, growing or gathering our own food is what everyone did.  It used to be normal.

Today, we live in some crazy times.

What amazes me the most is the denial.  My friend’s father says, “Oh, all this stuff is genetic.”  Hmmm, the explosion in obesity, cancer, diabetes, heart disease… is genetic?  Really?  Like, in just the last generation all of our genes have gone bad?

See how quickly our food supply has changed: (Infographic) What Happened to Our Food – A Timeline

Cancer Hitting Too Close to Home

Here is another example of denial.  This one a lot closer to home, and much more painful.

My husband and I were tossing around possibilities as to why our friend’s daughter had this tumor.  I said, “You know, she had a bad staph infection a while ago which is a sign of a compromised immune system.  And, although she tries, she really doesn’t eat a truly nutritious diet.  She still eats a good amount of processed food.”

My husband turned to me and asked, “Has it been proven that modern foods are harmful?”

I couldn’t believe it!

What did he just say?

18 years of the discipline of marriage kept my words to an almost civil tone.

I spun around, “Excuse me?????

He sheepishly realized that he had just trounced on the whole reason for all of the work I do.

And there before me, with clarity I had not seen before, lay a wound that has run through our marriage since its inception.

Now don’t get me wrong, we have a very good marriage.  But no union is perfect, and there are always some threads of disagreement and underlying tension.

Through Good Times and Bad

In fact, I am only writing this article right now because of my husband’s support.  I promise you, encouraging people to grow their own food for a living is not a huge money-making proposition.

And, I am sure that being married to me is not the easiest thing.  As my mother-in-law says, “Marjory, you definitely move to the beat of a different drum.”

So yes, he supported my insistence on organic food.  And then when then when that wasn’t good enough, he supported the growing of our own food.

He built the rainwater system, the greenhouse, and a variety of other important infrastructure for our homestead.  He funded the initial costs of making the Grow Your Own Groceries video.  He supports the time I spend making fermented foods, making bone broths, sprouting…  He’s pretty great.

Choosing to Invest in Yourself

My husband knows my time is valuable – I’m a highly trained woman with engineering and business degrees, and my time could be used making income for the family.  He has been very tolerant as our residence has slowly turned into a homesteading research center.

Many of the things I’ve done puzzle him, and he scratches his head.  But in the end, he doesn’t ask a lot, and he is glad that I wear shoes into town.  I try not to stay gone too long when I go adventuring, and I don’t force him to eat all of the bizarre experimental foods I explore.

What a Woman Wants

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate my husband.  He demonstrates to a very high degree a basic principle that all men should know.

All a woman wants is autonomy.

Knowing Your Limits

Now, our happy union does have its limits – believe me, I’ve tested them.

My husband’s support has come in the spirit of a man who loves his rather eccentric wife, without necessarily understanding the things I do or why they are so important to me.  And there is the underlying tension.

So there we stood in the kitchen.  Years flashed through my mind – years I had worked to ensure our family had the best nutrition, delivered as tastefully as I could possibly prepare it.  Years of work in the garden, the orchard, the kitchen, endless irrigation jobs, the livestock…  All the research I have done to find ways to grow food and to construct a healthy diet.  How I would never eat or condone the rare stop at a fast food place.  How I worked continually to reduce any possible kind of processed food from our diets.  My insistence that our family sit down together to watch films such as Fast Food Nation, Sicko, King Corn, and Food Inc.

There it all was, and he says, “Has it been proven that modern foods are harmful?”

So yes, it took every ounce of restraint I had, some of which I didn’t even know I had, to turn to him and only say, “Excuse me?

Yes, It Has Been Proven

75% of the food sold in US grocery stores is banned in more than 35 other countries.  There has been serious research done in Europe, and because of that the average American meal is illegal in most of Europe.  Here in the US there is that revolving door policy where high level executives from Monsanto and the USDA trade positions, so US policy is not based on serious independent research.  These people control the food supply in this country.

They really do.

Opting Out at the Grocery Store

Our friends did the best they knew how in raising their daughter and providing the best for her.  It is not really their fault.

Both of us have seen with our own eyes how in one generation everyone is getting sick – there may be other factors, but a huge part of it is the food supply.  You have to be a fanatic to be healthy and how could they have known that?

Most people don’t want to look at this simple truth.  This lifestyle change involves work, real work.  Cutting back foods from grocery stores and restaurants requires new habits.  Turning away from the seduction of processed foods is a real challenge.  Quality food is not necessarily more expensive, but it certainly isn’t convenient.  Just reading labels isn’t enough.  On labels, “Natural” and even “Organic” don’t mean the same things anymore.  You have to go beyond reading labels, to the point that if it has a label, you probably don’t want to ingest it.  You have to go to farmers markets, specialty stores, buying clubs can coops, or grow it yourself.

Taking Responsibility for Your Own Health

You have to start learning about health, doing your own research, and making decisions for yourself. Not all of the medical system or products out there are bad – but it takes time to sort through things and decide for yourself.  And we all make mistakes.

When you try something that isn’t medically sanctioned, everyone will say, “Oh, that was dumb – why did you do that?”  Even when the medical system itself is the third leading cause of death in this country (and because of a lack of reporting, there is good reason to believe that the medical system is possibly the largest cause of death in the US).

But they are the authority which so many believe in.  And it is much, much, much easier to go with the flow, trust the “experts,” pay for the insurance, and get the operation or take the pills.  They will fix you up.

Americans spent $8,233 per year per person on healthcare in 2010 according to an article at PBS.org.

That is more than any other country on earth.

And what have we got?

Better cancer research.

My family was looking for a fun run 5k to do together one of these beautiful weekends.  I am totally up for that.  Love it.

But I absolutely refuse to do one of the “run for the cure” runs.

Until America faces up to the simple truth that a large majority of the disease we are dealing with comes from our diets and our lifestyles, yeah, we will continue to have a slowly growing epidemic on our hands.

And it is our kids who are paying the price.

PS: If you’ve ever wondered why I founded the Grow Network, well I suppose this post sums it up.  And my hope is that others who are up for the road less traveled, the ones who are willing to take this journey that is not easy, the people who are willing to be true to their bodies and the earth from which they come – that is who this site is for.

I am struggling to make this happen.  But I know there are others.  The Grow Network Lab, which is still in its rough beginning stages, is intended to be a place where we can privately gather to support others, and to be supported on the journey.  I know the membership site is still rough, but if 66 cents a day (or $20 a month) is not a big expense for you, please consider supporting this work to find the fastest, easiest, and most fun ways to grow your own food in your own backyard.  I am always working to get more great content in the Lab and even if you aren’t into growing your own food right now, please consider supporting us so that it will be there when you get ready.  Click here to contribute: Join the Grow Network Lab

PPS: I finally joined up on Facebook.  We set up a group for Lab members, and I’m in there pretty often, answering questions and posting up interesting things I find from day to day.  If you could help spread this message around on your social networks, I would really appreciate it!

I look forward to your posts – you talk a lot of sense. I also try to only eat organic, and prefer anything I grow myself over whatever I buy. I make my own bread and butter etc as I prefer to know exactly what is in my food. Keep up the good work. Unfortunately I also know that husbands can be a trifle ‘trying’ when it comes to getting really good solid nutrition into a family.

    1. Hi Wolfie, Thanks! And yes, I suppose wives can be a pain in the butt too – always going on about how toxic the food supply is… LOL

  • Helene says:

Loved your article, thank you for all the work you do. Despite the sad news of your step daughter I found your write up on your relationship with your husband hilarious. I do believe you are doing an awesome job of education, I am doing the same type of work and I totally agree, this is really hard work to go against the grain of stuck ideas in the favor of sickness. I have also have to say that I know of people who simply cleaned up their life (not on the nutritional level yet) and did seriously decrease their sickness and other body troubles. Sometimes the nutrition aspect of someone life is not the easiest to access for that person and maybe she has to look for other aspect of her life which would also need serious clean up but would be a lot obvious and easier to increase the standards of…

    1. Hi Helene,
You know that ‘cleaning up’ aspect is key. There are so many different cures for the high level of disease – but they all come down to cutting out the commercial food supply.

I”ll just say “Amen, Sista!” (And thanks for what you do!)

  • Marjorie Curtiss says:

Marjory! I sooooo agree….also I have been on this bandwagon for over 20 years. To me it’s just common sense that people “know” what kind of food they are eating. I’ve done the research too….it’s gross!
I am sending your article along to friends and family! Blessings to you and yours! Marjorie

    1. Oh another Marjorie! Thanks so much for sending the article through your networks. Yes, 20 years, that is about my involvement. All I can say is how grateful I am to have been able to follow my own truth like this.

  • LeRoy says:

That’s a perfectly good article. I’m 81 Y.O. and I grew up just west of Denver. It’s now way inside the Denver city limits. We had goats, chickens, big garden, well water and an outhouse. My dad was disabled from WW1 but between the 3 of us we managed all the stuff that had to be done.
I attribute my good health to 1) mothers milk, 2) goats milk. Then we ate goat meat and chickens and of course all the stuff from the garden and the fruit trees.
I don’t do doctors or prescriptions or supplements. We live in an upstairs apartment and I do the 24 stairs multiple times a day. I can run up them. We have another place (one acre) down the street about a half mile away where we have a garden, green house and quite a large lawn to care
for. We had a tornado go thru here August 1, 2013 and it blew over 2 big old cottonwoods and they have been an eyesore ever since.
But just a few weeks ago I ran across an article on permaculture or HugelKultur and a light bulb started flickering in my head. So we cut up all the cottonwood that had not been carted away by others because it was to big to handle and started making a HK bed. This first one is about 30 foot long and maybe 7 foot wide.
It’s fun, exciting and I can’t hardly wait to see what happens when things start growing on it.
I saved seed from “Seeds Of Change” when they were a great new company and I keep them going.
I’m planning on growing strawberries and other cool weather stuff on the north slope and melons, squash and hot weather stuff on the south slope.
This is in SW Montana and I have pictures if you wish to see any
Again, thanks for a great article.
    LeRoy

Leroy, loved your post, perhaps because I am originally from Western Montana, Bitterroot area and my heart is still partly there. Also I just returned from visiting my daughter in the Denver area, Broomfileld, and I can see the dynamics of the expanding population there. I guess those two geographic connections spoke to me. I am 63 and am working toward a legacy like yours when I make it to 80. Cudos to you for your wise and hard work. I wouldn’t mind seeing your pictures. I just finished building a very nice but functrional chicken coop and put my first 3 girls in yesterday morning. I think this project has launched me off my resting pad into a life of sustainability and growning my own food. Best to you.

Wonderful article that I could have written…if I could write!!! That is our situation exactly, and every now and then, it hits me in the face, and makes me wonder if I get thru to anyone, if I can’t get thru to my husband, who is a literal genius. But he does not spend his time or brain cells on biology, and that means all that taking care of himself and his nutrition entails….this says it all…thank you….

    1. Sandy, awww, thank you so much for your comment.

  • KP says:

It’s great he supports you even when he doesn’t understand, & even if he forgets the research you share. I have limited support, plus we just moved, so I am starting from scratch (but have a much bigger lot, if I can wrestle out a decent share of it for food. Haha!).
I have a biology degree, & in grad school I did research on how environmental toxins in the environment (food & water) affect hormone function of birds who live & eat those toxins. But I’m discounted too.

You don’t need a degree to understand the truth of this stuff, nor to learn how to counter it for your family. 🙂

    1. Hi KP, thanks, yes my husband is really wonderful in so many other ways.

  • Dawn says:

Thank you so much for posting this. Same experience 🙂

  • George Gonzales says:

Thank you for all you do to educate us. I’m on the road a lot and find myself eating at whatever fast food place is convienant. My body and health are paying the price for my trying to earn a living. I’ve got to make some major changes in my life or I may not be around to see my grandkids grow up. Time to simplify things and get back to basics. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge and for being an example for us all.
    George

    1. George, right on. Hey, baggies of carrots? LOL. I am sure you are working on ways to do it. Traveling with your own food is crazy, but I do it all the time.

My husband had lung cancer, I gave this to him in capsule form for 4 days. We also did radiation and chemo. He is cancer free now and in great shape! His cancer was very advanced, almost stage 4 and he was in the hospital for 4 weeks, not much more than a vegetable. They could not operate, the tumor was too close to a main artery and esophagus. The tumor also was wrapped around his spinal cord and had cracked it.

    1. Dorothea, that is an amazing story.

  • charolette jackson says:

So sorry about your daughter-in-law. Praying everything goes well for her. I certainly agree with all you say and believe in. As a 62 year old living on disability and raising my grandson it is hard for me to do the things i want. i have gardened for many years but for the past 2 years something is going on with my land. my garden barely produce and i have a wild cherry tree that hasnt made cherries in 2 years. the blooms pop out and then just fall off, so i dont know what is happening.but please tell your daughter in law and all of you my prayers are sent. thanku soo much for what u do!

      1. peter lehnert says:

hello charolette, regarding blooms falling off fruit trees that produce nothing, and greatly reduced general garden production, it may be possible that you are not getting good pollination due to the crash of the honey bee population. i can only suggest the cultivation of an alternative pollinator: carpenter bees, bumble bees, other kinds of solitary bees if you already have them in your natural environment. some seed catalogues have commercially made houses for these pollinators. they are also very easy to make at home with minimal carpentry skills and basic tools. i also have the same problem: no apples, no cherries. it also helps to add boron to the soil for apple production. it really helped me. it is only necessary to follow the instructions on the container. it is difficult to overdose with boron, the trees will only take just as much as they need, but use it sparingly. good luck, pete

  • Frank says:

Marjorie, very sad to hear of your step-daughters cancer. I’m certain that you and her father will be very supportive during the course of whatever treatment options are available.

There are few medical centers in the U.S. worthy of the name, but one that comes to mind immediately is the Mayo Clinic. My wife was treated at the Rochester, MN clinic (not for cancer) with outstanding results. There is another closer to you in Phoenix.

I’ve heard good things about Cancer Treatment Centers of America (Goodyear, Arizona), but a little research came up with this article from Reuters (http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/03/06/us-usa-cancer-ctca-idUSBRE9250L820130306).

I’ve written a book called “The Other Patient: A Guide to Patient Advocacy” available on Amazon. If you’ll email me your mailing address, I’ll gladly send you a copy.

    1. Frank says:

Just found your address at the bottom of the page. I’ll send you a copy of the book.

    2. Hi Frank, I sent you an email. Thank you so much for your kind offer.

  • Karin says:

Marjory, YOU GO GIRL!!! This article was Awesome!!!

    1. Thanks Karin! Whew you support is greatly appreciated.

  • Marjory,

Thanks for the great article, reminding us why we grow our own food. I too have spend years toiling to produce healthy food for our family. I too am sometimes discouraged when I see great nutritious fruits and vegetables rot on the storage shelf and in the fridge, while most of what my family eats comes out of a box, bag, can or bottle with a label of ingredients so long I fall asleep reading it. I can’t pronounce the words in the last three quarters of the list anyway so I know its bad stuff, and I have a Chemistry degree.

This year I just started raising chickens for eggs and meat and I have eaten too many eggs, 5-6 per day for a couple months before my annual medical checkup and blood test. Now my doctor wants me to go immediately back on cholesterol medicine (I’ve been off for at least five years) but he doesn’t want to give me the chance to try to get my LDL levels down by changing my diet first (lay off so many eggs and sausage).

My wife follows all the media crazes about healthy foods, but goes to the over processed special stuff with the long list of unpronounceable ingredients as the cure. I refuse to call it food or supplements if it has more than five ingredients, hence the term “stuff.”

Being a disabled veteran I had a free cell phone for five years which I may have really used a total of five times, though I was required to make at least one call a month to keep the phone so I called my home phone while sitting in front of it. My family, on the other hand, is constantly on the cell phone/computer/social media device unless they are on the computer and TV at the same time. At least I’ve got them to stop microwaving their water for coffee. They still microwave all that pre-prepared “stuff” they put in their mouth. It can’t be called food where I live.

Thankfully, all of us have weened ourselves off unnecessary prescription drugs and always count the costs before agreeing to take any prescriptions, even short term, like pain killers after an operation or injury.

Regarding cancer, I have already survived lipo-sarcoma in 1986 and have already decided if I get any form of cancer again I will not submit to chemo. There are just so many proven treatments for cancer that the AMA won’t approve for money reasons, I refuse to make medicine my god. Jesus is the great healer and the power of the Holy Spirit has truly healed more cancer than all the doctors in the world combined. I’m not talking “five year survival” which the medical community calls cured. I’m talking total remission like faith in Jesus did for my sarcoma.

I suggest you and your step daughter look to Jesus for salvation and healing and direction in life. If you both are already saved I suggest more mention of it in your work. If you don’t know what salvation is or how to get it I suggest you want any of my videos after number 7 at http://www.crunchtimeprep.com/videos.htm

Keep up the good work and God Bless,

    Fran

    1. Hi Fran, yes, you bring up a very god point – perhaps THE POINT. Divine help and guidance is available to all of us. What journey are we on if it isn’t in accordance with the divine?

    2. maidel says:

FYI geniuses have extremely high cholesterol. Makes sense as the brain has a very high need for cholesterol. Cholesterol is not the problem, inflammation is, cholesterol is the innocent on the scene trying to help. Bless you for your faith in Jesus.

I am an American-born Canadian, and a pastor for the last 47 years. I feel your frustration when I see people in the church suffering unnecessarily from every manner of illness because of stress, diet and lifestyle, then getting finished off by the corrupt medical system. We’re trying to build a culture of truth but it is slow-going, trying to slog against the “experts” in the system and against what “everybody knows” and what everyone else does.

Keep beating your drum. Truth must prevail n the end! od bless you, Marjory!

I totally agree with every bit in this article.

  • Michael says:

Definitely one of the best articles I have ever read on the subject of food. Thank you for writing it.

  • Al says:

Bravo, you make total sense & tie a lot of good info together in this article.
Thanks for all your efforts in helping spread this information.

  • Michael says:

I don’t always read everything, but I read every word of this. Bravo!
I’m sorry your step daughter has to go through this in her life.

    1. I hope she will be fine. It is a nerve wracking thing so near the brain and all. But still small compared to other problems. She is still young and fairly strong. I guess the real question is, what will this wake up call mean to her? So many get the call, and do not heed the bodies messages.

  • R. Fisher says:

Wow! Marjorie! You are SO dead on right! It is a major uphill battle to even speak of, let alone promote, the “heresy” that a lot of the time the “experts” are the problem and not the cure. You hit it right on about the revolving door between big government and big agriculture and the vested financial interests. Monsanto postures itself as the savior of the world and the only way to go in feeding people, while creating poisonous “food-like substances for people to eat, and spending millions upon millions of dollars to prevent labeling the crap they create so people might at least have a chance of exercising a semi-informed decision about what to put into their bodies.

I applaud your efforts and give you my encouragement that you are among the few (but growing) number of people who have been able to see through the fog created by the horrible combination of big government and big agriculture (and don’t even get me STARTED on the corollary problem of big government and big Pharma!)

    Marjorie, you go girl!

    1. Hi R. Thank you. You know, I really don’t have a problem with monopoly, just that it is delivering really poor food. The great news is, we can opt out. There are things we can do. We can grow our own food!

  • Laurel R says:

C’mon Marjory – tell us how you really feel! 😉 But you are right on. The most amazing thing to me (and what gives me any hope) is the incredible resilience of the human body – the very fact that the person I see in line at the grocery store with the cart full of frozen waffles and soft drinks is able to walk in to buy those, year after year. Change is possible – and our incredibly designed bodies can revive once we begin to treat them right!

    1. LOL Laurel – OK, I’ll try not to hide my feelings.

Yes, I find it amazing too. That the human body can take so much punishment and abuse and still go on for a long, long time. Life is strong and it does give immense hope.

  • Beth says:

Marjory you are amazing and what you posted today is so true! This world is going in the wrong direction. In my mind I see a fence and one on side we have all these people killing our food. On the other are people like you trying to get people to not only open their eyes but get off their butts and do something. I feel like as time moves on all those people are going to have to get off the fence and decide do they just want to eat all this toxic stuff and be part of the problem or become part of the solution. Just have to say God bless you and your husband for all you do. Keep doing it you are changing us all for the better and we are sharing you message. You go girl!! I look forward to all the cool things we will all learn from you:)

Now don’t roll your eyes: the new micro size colloidal silver preparations remove eye cysts as your daughter-in-law has, at super speeds…like in a day or two. You can make this expensive stuff yourself, for about 32 cents per QUART. Honest. Go to theSilverEdge.com , and read upon all the possibilities. I have NO affiliation with them, but am a very satisfied user of the micro-generator. My family and several friends are also now believers. Marv Krupp, probably the healthiest 78 year old you’ll ever meet (Actually did meet you in Orlando area last year.. 🙂

    1. Hi Marv, oh yes, we met at the Lakeland expo. I remember. Oh I wish I could talk with her about alternatives, but that just isn’t going to work out right now. Maybe after this first phase of shock wears off. Hey thanks so much for writing in.

  • Bremda says:

    Absolutely right, Marjorie.
All I have to do is look around me at the people I see in stores who can’t even walk anymore .. or the malls where almost everyone is obese .. or the lines at KFC and other poisonous fast food places. I see people in line at the grocery store who look horrible and their shopping cart is full of soda, donuts, cookies, sausage .. all kinds of unhealthy food… and I want to shake them and say “wake up! Wjat is in your cart is killing you!” .. swollen ankles, bellies hanging down to their knees, hobbling around looking like the living dead. It’s sad. Thank you for what you do. God bless you.

    1. Hi Brenda, Oh yes, ‘shopping cart eves dropping’ is a fun pastime isn’t it? And you know what, it is a very accurate indication of the general truth of the whole issue. Look at the person and look in their basket.

      Thanks for writing in.

  • John says:

I agree with you 100%. Using a good diet with natural therapies will probably easily cure your step daughter’s cancer if she’s willing to make the necessary changes.

And congratulations on your “exercise of restraint” with your apparently still very ignorant husband!!!

    1. Hi John,

You know, he has supported me so faithfully, I really can’t ask more of him. the way I look at it, we are different. I do my best to keep him healthy as I understand it and appreciate that he mostly goes along with it. As I said, it is a very good marriage. We laugh and joke and share wonderful exchanges. Our family prepares and eats meals together, and we are sharing the crazy ride that being parents of teenagers will take anyone on. I don’t ask for anything more, but it does hurt sometimes.

  • Arlene says:

Marjory, Just read your article and agree wholeheartedly. My daughter and her twin daughters live with me and I have a terrible time trying to feed them. They are all overweight and eat all the wrong foods. I started gardening a couple of years ago and one of the twins helped me build my boxes, filling the boxes, hoop house, etc, but will not eat anything that comes out of the garden. She will only eat canned green beans and corn as far as veggies go. The other will eat my spinach and chard, but also eat all kinds of junk food. I have gone completely organic and only heirloom with growing, and I bought your program last year which has helped me immensely. All I can hope for is that the twins and daughter will come to their senses before long and start eating properly. Thank you for your articles, keep them coming.

    1. Hi Arlene, you might try growing kid friendly foods such as cherry tomatoes, sugar snap peas, sweet corn, or strawberries.

Yes, but it is tough. Just keep trying. I work with some kids at my daughters school and was delighted just this morning to help one young girl cook some scrambled eggs with collards. She had never cooked anything before and was rightfully proud of herself. I think it is all we can do, keep trying and hope for the best.

  • Linda says:

Thank you for your honesty in writing this! I could have written almost every word myself–well ok, not the part about the 5K run. It’s so hard to see loved ones head down this road and know there are things they can/could be doing to prevent it or heal it. And be powerless to tell them when they are in a desperate place. I keep trying to “plant seeds” of information whenever possible so they know they can trust me to ask in times of need. And it does happen over time that they come looking for answers. I had to laugh at your husband’s question. Have heard it myself too. And at times have asked it myself as well. When I lived on 10 acres we never had chickens or a goat or a big garden. How sad that makes me! Now I live on a 60 x 110 foot lot and we have loads of garden brimming with herbs and veggies of all sorts and I dream of chickens and goats and fruit trees. But doing the best I can and meeting some wonderful local farmers who help me with the things I can’t grow/raise myself. Made my kids watch some of the same movies you did yours. And thankfully they KNOW how good real food makes them feel and how LOUSY their friends’ food makes them feel. So my generation is not so interested in all this new (old) way of growing, but I really sense the next generation getting excited about it. Keep doing what you do, Marjory. It DOES make a difference!

    1. Thanks so much Linda. On we go, huh? Oh well, its all good.

  • Barbara Shegitz says:

I appreciate your article. I am obese, and had arthritis so bad that I could not exercise. I had a hip replacement and the doctor told me to lose weight. Well, I didn’t and when I went back for my 2 yr. checkup I mentioned it. He gave me a prescription for walking on an anti-gravity treadmill. I started that & felt really liberated. I could move and not have pain. Then I read the Wheat Bely book and after only about 3 weeks, I can feel he arthritis ebbing away. I’m sure that you have read all about it, but I wanted to share, because I’m so very excited about moving again. I’m 70 years old too.

    1. Wow Barbara, that is a great story. Thanks for sharing. Please feel free to drop a comment in on nay post and let us know how you are doing. Especially when you reach a new milestone – such as being able to walk for a block, or you’ve gone for a month without eating wheat. cutting our bread was a biggie for me. Not that easy, so pat yourself on the back!

  • Holly says:

I love this post; you are “right on” with all you said. I’m enjoying your website as well. I just ordered and received your DVD and thoroughly enjoyed it. My husband has been “tolerating” my attempts at self-sufficient living (recycling, composting, backyard chickens) and I love him for it. We’re currently working on making a greenhouse out of a chain link dog pen…we’re kind of making it up as we go along, but hopefully it will work. My five year plan includes raising rabbits for meat, adding meat chickens and ducks to my backyard flock, and working on a food forest. We have two HugelKultur beds that my husband made for me last year. Again, he thought the HK beds were a crazy idea, but it was an excuse for him to use his tractor (which he adores). The beds worked well that summer, but this past summer I couldn’t seem to keep the rabbits and deer from eating everything I planted…so frustrating! I’ve put up some rabbit fencing around the beds, and I’m going to attempt a fall/winter garden, so hopefully I’ll have better luck.
Keep up the good work, Marjorie…I’m listening!

    1. Hi Holly, Yes, isn’t it alwasy something? LOL. I was doing an experiment with free range rabbits and they mostly ate up my garden. I found out how difficult it is to fence out rabbits. Wild ones don’t get anywhere close, but I trained my dogs not to eat my domestic free range ones… sigh. What did I do that for? LOL. Oh well, we are mostly having fun.

      thanks for your support.

  • Lisa says:

LOVED this article, could probably write a book on all the things I liked about it, but will just say “Thank you for writing it!” The sad thing is, no matter how much you know about food and every day toxicity and would like to share with others…they really don’t want to hear about it. I have so many friends with issues, every month through my facebook newsfeed they are posting ribbons or awareness articles and all of them are following the pied piper of the medical system….and getting worse, it makes me sad. And yet….we are supposedly cold hearted for not ponying up money for “better research”, or buying a shirt, or running the 5ks (we also won’t “run for a cure”…I’ll run for hunger or housing or trail conservation, but I won’t run for a “cure” that they’re not trying to find!). Anyway, thank you for this article, I really appreciated it!

    1. Thanks Lisa. This article has been welling up for a long time… I am so glad to read all the wonderful comments. Thanks for writing in.

I just read your article and I really am moved to find someone whom I know is truley sincere about her work and making us wake up and open our eyes to what is going on around us. I read many articles and I am taking baby steps in making those changes. My husband and I plant a garden every year and this past year I planted nothing but Heirloom Non GMO seeds. I will continue my quest to make a better life for me and my family and appreciate the stories and advice you provide. GOD Bless.

    1. Petra, You are doing it just right – small steps are the best! Congrats on having a garden.

  • John R says:

It is great that your husband has supported you in your work, but forgive him of his outburst in his time of grief and sorrow. He is going through denial. He hasn’t accepted his daughter’s affliction. He will lash out and anything.
You are the leader of a great and growing movement to get better food on all our tables. My wife of over 40 years had made the statement 40 years ago that they will find the cause of cancer linked to what we eat. You are bringing this fact to the forefront and I thank you for that.
I love you and all that you do, and you have hit the nail on the head with this article. Don’t give up.

  • Sargintrock says:

Soldier on, for you are an illuminating ray of light in a world of deception and medical flim-flam! The adding of industrial waste (floride) into our municipal water supplies is reason enough for anyone to begin connecting the dots about the take down of America. I know you are very busy but if your husband could listen to infowars.com for one WEEK, he would understand WHY this is happening and have ALL the proof his Inquiring mind wants to know!!! God Bless you and Fight the Good Fight. You are APPRECIATED!

    Best article yet Marjory!!

  • David Welch says:

Hi Marjory–so sorry to read about your daughter’s eyelid cancer. I’ve been getting your email since I subscribed a few years ago. I work for News Radio KLBJ and you did a short advertising campaign with me. When I saw this about your daughter step daughter’s eye cancer, it prompted me to reach out to you and let you know my concern. Thoughts and prayers her way. Would enjoy hearing from you sometime to know how your business is growing in the years since we worked together. Blessings!

    1. Hi David, oh yes, it has been quite a long time, hasn’t it? Yes, we had a very difficult time making the advertising via radio work out financially. I am still a huge fan of John Dromgoole – listen every weekend and curse the commercials! LOL. Thanks so much for your kind words.

      Thanks for writing in.

  • Robert says:

Great article. I am 83 and healthy, my wife is 75 and has had colon cancer but is now cancer free, We grow as much as we can and forgo all processed foods. (as much as we can)
Keep up the posts as the message is getting out, although a little to slow.

    1. Hi Robert, 83, wow. Thanks for your support.

  • Barbara Hooper says:

Its not easy “marching to a different drummer”! I know the feeling! Sometimes you feel a little lonely and question yourself. But that’s part of the process of clarification. You know you are doing vital work at a very crucial time in mankind’s history. You know their are many people who support you and who are doing the same work. I have always enjoyed the idea that there are many of us all over the world who will never meet each other but who belong to the same tribe. The tribe of seeking truth and integrity in all we do. Its hard work, its lonely work at times, but we are compelled to follow Life’s promptings to be true to what we know. We must encourage and support each other in this work. It helps to get “conscious” about it. I am 64 and am a celiac. I have had migraines all my life. I have experienced severe depression and anxiety which I have been out of for several years. We grow as much of our food as we can and buy from our local farmers market during the season it is open. I sell gluten-free baking at the farmers market and share recipes and a listening ear to many people who have nutritional concerns. We have chickens and ducks (love our ducks!). My husband and I love reading your newsletter. It is helpful and encouraging. Keep up the great work Marjory!

  • Leslie Parsons says:

Marjory, you have verbalized the sorrow of every “awake and aware” person that I know. Our loved ones cannot see what we see. They believe the lies writ large. Nothing we say or do can penetrate the bubble of mind-control that hangs over our society like toxic sludge. When something goes wrong the heartache is the same on both sides of the bubble – and yet, they still can’t hear us. We understand, because once we were all taken in by the big lie. But, patience is difficult when those close to us are suffering and we must watch from the other side of that bubble. That is the hardest thing I have to live with.

The discipline required to live a non-toxic life is huge. It is best taken one bite at a time, but many have done it all of a sudden due to urgent situations like the tragedy that is visiting your family. You and your wonderful, extraordinary husband are in our hearts. Roy and I are praying for you and all of us who suffer this hurt.

    1. Thank you so much Leslie.

You know, its simply the truth. What more can be said?

      Appreciate all your support.

  • Mike Halperin says:

1st, good luck to your step daughter.

Yes, we are ALL being poisoned by our food, water, environmental toxins, and unresolved stress. Even artificial noise & light which disrupt our natural circadian rhythms contribute to the decline in health.

We trade material comforts and tolerate them because the connection is not obvious. Like the proverbial frog slowly boiled in a pot of water, we don’t ‘get it’ until we are cooked.

It’s difficult to address these challenges individually. Local, resilient communities of likeminded individuals are the answer. Pooling resources makes it more do-able.

Because self reliance and good health equal freedom & independence, global corporations & government have outlawed access to them. The nimble individual however, can always outmanuever cumbersome bureaucracies.

    1. Hi Mike, I recetnly did an interviedw with Sally Fallon and she spoke of the ‘natural selection of the wise’. Ouch, there is a tough concept, but also true. The great thing is, there is a lot we can do about it. In our backyards no less! Thanks for your support.

  • Barbara Hellekson says:

I loved this article. I understand it. I agree with it. I just wish I had the strength and determination you have to follow through.

  • Ingrid says:

Marjory, Just want to say – with great emphasis – that the work you do is VITAL. I, for one, find you a great source of inspiration. I know your job is not easy at all. It is demanding, but you are an essential link between this generation and the few survivors-to-be in the very difficult future we face. You are not alone! When I had to “deal” with the utility company over a smart meter, I definitely thought of you. You must stay strong, and please keep in mind there are others like you. God bless you! Ingrid

In response to your 11-4-14 email “Americans are corn fed dummies”….Marjory, you are a REAL person, with successes and foibles and a family and struggles, et al. Thank you for sharing your experiences in these areas of your life. Have myself been struggling in these same areas and your words are encouraging me that I’m not alone and to keep fighting the good fight. Since I believe that “the laborer is worthy of his wages” and since I am benefiting from your research and work, today am signing up to support your great efforts and doing the research that I basically don’t have the time, wherewithal, etc, to do myself. THANK YOU for the sacrifices you clearly make in order to do this work, THANK YOU for sharing your work with people you haven’t even met or know. Wishing you all success…because when you succeed we all succeed 🙂 Sue W
PS: Unsolicited advice…please take lots of breaks to rest and strengthen yourself…so you do not get burned out.

    1. Sue, thank you so much. Yup, I do have to slow down some. Will work on that…

  • Nancy S says:

Thank you for this. I am saving it to reread and reread again. Living in New England, it is hard to grow all our own food, but we did really well this past summer, and I have canned a lot. I have a hard time understanding why more people are not refusing to buy the “poisoned” stuff in our supermarkets, and why they are revolting against companies like Monsanto.

At least some of us are learning, and perhaps we will make a dent.

    1. Hi Nancy, oh thank you so much. Hey, congrats on the canning and growing.

    2. Nancy S says:

That should have said “why they are NOT revolting…”. Typo.

  • Cal says:

    Marjory;
Thank you very much for sharing. It is so important that people hear and understand what you are saying before it is too late!
Many years ago I was told that my days are numbered and that ONLY “slicing, poisons, and radiation could help me. Since I had watched almost 70% of my family die from those options I decided to shift my life 180 degrees. I started with a major cleanse and water fast for a few weeks then moved to a cleaner environment and changed the way I think and eat. I have not managed to come as far as you have but I work at it every day.
Now almost 30 years later I think about the people that “thought I was nuts” and realize that most of them are gone!!! Even two of the doctors younger than me have died!! I feel that reading your articles every week is some of the best advice that anyone could ever have! Again thank you so much for what you are doing to try and help us…..I for one deeply appreciate you!

  • Sandy says:

    Marjory,
Thank you so much for publishing this article! It helps me to remember why I am gardening and experimenting and trying to learn to do things better. I’m with you – we have to change our ways in order to become more healthy, live longer and beat disease! It is so easy to be a “corn fed dummy.” It takes hard work and persistence to go against the mainstream of society. Thanks for being a leader in going against the mainstream and thanks for being willing to teach others along the way!

    1. Hi Sand, thanks so much for your support. Yes, one step at a time, and keep beating the drum. I suppose truth will win in the end? I gotta believe that.

  • John Bugni says:

Marjorie, your piece today hit the nail on the head. I have been following you for quite some time and am a believer in what your are doing but have the common roadblocks of opposition form spouse due to lack of understanding and the difficulty and radically change understanding reality would cause. There is also personal inertia to overcome knowing the reistance we face from most everyonne we know, friends and family alike. But it only takes a little common sense and personal honesty to look around at our country, our society and the world to realize we are in trouble. And we have to take responsibility for ourselves. That is one of the big problems. The vast majority of people are products of someone else’s thinking and are unwilling to think for themselves and do the work that facing reality will require. I am guilty of that myself at times but am working hard to overcome that. We will have to be completely radical by our culture’s standards to prepare ourselves. I have just completed building a nice, functional chicken coop and added my first 3 chickens yesterday. I am amazed that my wife is onboard, but I think for her it is more that it is cool hobby, but I think subconsciously, she’s moving in the right direction. I have a sense that this “selfsustainable” step is going to become a big part of our lives in the months and years to come, but I have much to learn. I resonate with your story about your step-daughter. I just returned from visiting my daughter and our 3 under 8 years old grand kids and though their story is not as serious as yours, they are moving along in the culteral main stream eating all the bad food. My wife and have just made radical dietary change for our health with amazing results and my daughter sees our result but not interested in hearing much about it or embraceing new concepts. I’m very interested in embracing the grow your own food concept. Up to now I have been interested in learning about it, hence my following of your material, but the quote comes to mind “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” I think that is what happened with the chickens and now I am ready to enlarge my vision and your message has confirmed my sense of it. So I am heading down to sign up for an annual subscription to your material and will be reading it with more of an eye to learning an implementing. I know there will be obstacles but with the help of people like you, not just with material but principles and concepts, I’m excited about the journey. I tend to get wordy with comments so forgive me, but your message struck a cord deep within. Thanks. Look forward to follow you more closely.
    John

    1. John, thanks so much for your support. Yup, we are on the road less traveled, and if you r wife likes the chicken for other reasons, well so be it. At least you are moving in the right direction.

and I do want to know what would be most important in the membership area. Should we get more expeditions? I have limited resources. Should we focus on getting groups setup so we can all communicate? I am just making this up as I go and certainly want it to be a community oriented and driven thing.

  • Homesoil says:

Hi Marjory, I have only just “discovered” you and I feel like you are my “soul sister”. Everything you do I am moving towards and I appreciate your article. My husband is supportive but really doesn’t understand the whole picture either and so I feel like I am battling all the time and I am not as nice about it either (although I am working on that). I appreciate your candidness, Please keep up your good work trying to raise awareness of these issues. x

    1. Hi Homesoil. Oh yes, the discipline of being civil to your spouse…. now there is a real challenge! LOL. I always refer to the wisdom in the story about Solomon where he advised “Save your anger for another day”. Hmmm I think Angles Arien wrote teh book with the story in it. good read BTW.

  • This is why I love what you do. Because you don’t hold back, but tell it like it is. Keep up the great work, Marjory. People need to hear the truth.

  • Genene says:

Thank you for this post! I was raised on a farm where we didn’t have the money to buy processed foods–thank goodness. However, as an adult I needed to bring in money to support myself and my sons, so fell into the processed foods trap and bought into most of the system. When I reached 50 years old and the medical system didn’t have an answer for my ailments other than I was growing old, that wasn’t good enough for me. I have been taking baby steps back to being self-sufficient and people I talk to actually seem to realize this is good. However, I also discovered energy healing such as Reiki and I talk to animals, who have taught me so much. Some people are open to those discussions, but it’s too much woo-woo for most people. LOL! I do appreciate others who are walking the “paths less traveled” so once again, thank you for this post!

    1. Hi Genene, oh yes, Reiki and other energy work is work I would like to bring forward more in the future.

  • Norm says:

Read your article. I will briefly relate something I came across about a year ago on a terminal cancer cure. I suggest you do a search for “baking soda cancer cure” on google. One we found was http://www.phkillscancer.com

That is where I read an article by a man who was sent home to die with some type of tumor cancer. He related that he decided to find his own cure.

He claims he cured his own cancer by taking baking soda. The idea behind this is that cancer cells can not live in a PH 8 environment so he decided to see if he could get his blood PH up to 8 and claimed that he did and thereby cured himself of his cancer and this is how he did it quite simply.

He took a level teaspoon of baking soda in water as soon as he got up in the morning and did not eat anything for two(2) hours. If he would have, the food and stomach acids would have neutralized the baking soda, which is a medium level alkaline and alkaline neutralized acid and vice versa. How long he did this, I don’t remember, but I did a quick search for the above and found a couple of hits you should find and see what they are saying about this.

My wife and I tried this for about three(3) weeks after reading his article. Just as my wife found this, I had begun feel ill with a burning sensation as if through the core of all my bones. After three weeks of taking the baking soda, the burning went away and now a year or so later, has never come back.

Normal healthy blood PH is supposed to be just over 7 at around 7.3 ph, slightly alkaline, but with our processed foods, soda pop, etc., most people are said to be at a 6.7ph or worse. That is acidic. Bad for the immune system and all else.

For what it is worth, I hope this actually helps.

    God bless,

    Norm

    1. Tanks Norm. The key point is taking responsibility. That is the missing ingredient in so much of our collective choices.
Oh, I had heard about baking soda. There are actually many different ways. Thank you so much for writing in.

I appreciate your openness and the raw emotions that come through in your writing. I think many of us reading this can relate. I agree with everything you said. Fortunately, my husband thinks in the same way I do or I know it would be very difficult. Our common goals are a binding force.

    1. Kate, you are a lucky one then. Well, life is mostly good. I wish for something different, but overall, I really have a wonderful life. This wound is what it is. I stand on what I know and believe. It is very difficult sometimes.

LOL – obviously some mixed emotions, huh? thanks for writing in.

Exactly right ! Everything you wrote & everything you feel I share completely. I am 60 years old & have been thought eccentric by my friends for some 40 years. It is also driving me nuts that I’m between veggie gardens because I’m in the process of remodeling one home in southern CA. to sell & moving to another in northern CA. Relying on grocery stores makes me so very uneasy. Finding support can be frustrating. But your work couldn’t be more noble. Keep it up. For some of us we know no other way.

    1. Ford, good luck with that move. Thanks so much for your support!

Thank you Marjory…….wonderful article!!…….I have forwarded it to everyone I can think of……the hardest part is those that need it most do not want to hear it……and the faith they have in the medical system astounds me every time!!…

I have your stuff and talk about it……I keep working on spreading the healthy options but this statement of yours about sums it…You said…. “You have to start learning about health, doing your own research, and making decisions for yourself.” it takes work and so many are just NOT willing to do that!!

I am hoping that by leading by example I may influence some! Keep up the good work Marjory we absolutely appreciate all you do.

  • Drew says:

    Marjory,

Thanks for opening up. Cancer is a scary experience, and yes, a lot of us believe that it is our food that is killing us and many of our friends and family think we are off the deep end; however, what I find in the “alternative” food are websites and sales pitches that promise to cure my everything which, to me, sound and look too much like snake oil sales.

I know you are busy and you genuinely have your business to help people, but I really do not like infusionsoft’s cookie cutter websites and it really does distract me from your message when your infusionsoft powered website looks like every other slick sales MLM scheme out there. I don’t know what they are charging you, but I think they are doing you a disservice.

None of us are perfect, at least you are out there trying to do good. I hope your step daughter gets through this quickly and listens to her step-mom from now on!

    All the best,
    Drew

    1. Hi Drew,

Sigh, I do the best I can with the technology. I know it is a long, long shot from perfect. I have a love / hate relationship with Infusionsoft.

Marjory – Yesterday I stood in Walmart with a container of pins in my hand and watched a thin couple put 10 food items on the counter. All ten, yes I said all 10, were fake imitations of food. Not one single product was food – pure and unaltered by science.

    1. Yeah, it is a crazy world. Thanks for writing in Susan.

  • Janet says:

I really enjoyed and connected with your article. I admit that I don’t always read through all of your email articles but this one just drew my attention and I connected with having a spouse & family who support my attempts because they are both stuck with me & love me. I strongly want to help my family be self-sustaining and am slowly learning how we can become more healthy too. So when I try new healthier foods or remedies we tease that I’m working on my witchcraft. Living in a urban suburb of zone 3-4 and having a black thumb have led to strong set backs, but thanks to you and lots of research and trial and error, I am getting a better brown-greenish thumb.

    1. Janet, keep going. I was just reading Michael Pollens new book and I think he is right, gardeners are people who can withstand a lot of failure and keep going. It gets better and better.

  • deb says:

    Hey Marjory
I posted a sort of longish reply to this earlier today, but seems it disappeared into cyberspace. Ah well, what I wanted to say has mostly already been said.
    This is a powerful message.
I wanted to add to the conversation that even our pets are suffering the effects of processed, toxic, GMO foods. One of our dogs was diagnosed with an autoimmune degenerative eye disease. On researching it, I found that vets haven’t even seen this until the last 20 years. Think about all the crappy food that is in our grocery stores, and it is also in the pet food. The consequences are beginning to be seen. Maybe that will wake a few people up. And by the way, instead of the daily doses of steroids they wanted to give her for the rest of her life, we opted to treat her like we would treat ourselves-with real food. Maybe as good a testament as anything to what real nutrition can do, she is beginning to show improvement on a supposedly incurable condition.
We so strongly believe in the need to be ready and capable of growing our own food, that we moved across the country and are using most of our retirement to build up a homestead. Your DVDs and the blog and website have proven to be invaluable.
your family is in our prayers.

    1. Thank you Deb. OMG, don’t get me started on the pet food… I have never seen so many cats and dogs getting diseases just like people. Feline diabetes?

    Marjory,

I’m not a faithful reader of your posts, but I did read this one. It is excellent! I agree with you. I am a pastor, and it seems we have more and more prayer requests in our church for people with heath problems, especially cancer. And often these are young people or children. We are killing ourselves by the food that we eat, as well as other environmental toxins. On a related note, I am a chaplain in a nursing home, and the pressure to get a flu shot is intense. People just take the medical community’s word that the flu shot is safe and effective. If you do some research on this, you will find that there are many who have serious questions about this. One of the accusations is that if you don’t get the flu shot, you are putting the residents at risk. The reality is that most of the workers who get the flu also have had the flu shot! Thanks for letting me get this off my chest! God bless you!

    1. Kent, Yes I continue to find it amazing that the medical system has such a bad track record, and yet so much clout. Yes, I hear about the necessity of flu shots every Fall.

Thank you for the article and expressing the thoughts and feelings that so many of us are having. I too had a close family diagnosed with cancer last week and I am in the same boat. I am using a lot of restraint to keep recommendations to myself. I agree that malnourishment, toxins, and psychological stressors must be addressed. However, it seems that now the medical establishment and media are trending towards pointing the finger at our genes. And so, my mother stated: “Everyone on that side of the family gets that type of cancer and there is nothing you can do about it because that is the way it is.”….. as she proceeded to cook some Hormel bacon in the microwave.
In my family I am viewed as eccentric and a fanatic because I like to eat organic, non-GMO, etc. Most of the time when I try to educate, I get interrupted and walked away from. Just yesterday I heard a report on the regular mainstream media about a study in England where 100,000 people were followed over 30 years to learn about the effects of milk consumption. That study confirmed that milk does not do a body good. When I tried to share those results with the family, they did not believe it and said the study was probably rigged. Further, everyone in my neighborhood voted against GMO food labeling! From my point of view, it all seems crazy what is going on around me, yet I am viewed as the fanatic.

    1. Hi Cece, my heart goes out to you. for both of us. things have not been going well here at home since I published this post.

You are absolutely right Marjorie. the medical system has no interest in finding the cure…we have to take responsibility for our own health. tell your step daughter to check out Dr. Leonard Coldwell, Bill Henderson’s Gentle cancer cure book, Chrisbeatcancer.com. there lots of good into out there. God bless her and you and your family. i’ve had cancer 3x, the 2nd time was supposedly ‘terminal’. tell her to go totally raw food and do coffee enemas to rid her liver of toxins. there’s lots she can do…don’t panic. don’t let the docs scare you. love, sylvia davidson

    1. Thank you Sylvia. Yes, there is a lot to do – and the medical system is very intimidating.

You may want to look at the Gerson Institute. Dr. Max Gerson developed the diet for his migraine headaches. It worked for so many other degenerative diseases that his patients had as well that eventually someone asked him to cure her cancer. He said he didn’t do that. However she talked him into giving her the food cure…many were healed. He was persecuted and fled war time Germany. He was a physician with a doctorate. The little book he wrote documenting the many cases of serious diseases that reversed with this approach is scientifically documented.
In the meantime, the microbiologist, Gaston Naessens, of Rock Forest, Quebec develped a simple injection into the lymphatics which stimulates the immune system and reverses many serious diseases including cancer. He developed this by using a microscope which was very advanced for its time. He could observe viruses without killing them with the magnification. He observed even more. The full story is in the book: The Trial and Persecution of Gaston Naessens. More can be learned from the Cerbe Distribution Inc. which is the official distributor of 714X. Outside of Canada no doctor’s prescription is needed. The only side effect is good health even if it is too late to reverse a disease that has done too much damage. Hope this information helps. Lou

Marjory, I went through the range of emotions while reading this blog entry. Sorrow at learning about your stepdaughter’s cancer; shared amazement at hubby’s response about processed foods; amazement at your self-restraint; and laughing out loud at some of your (all-too-true) commentary. Thank you for your transparency, and as always, for the powerful analysis and information!

    1. Hey Vickie, so good to hear from you online.
I got into some serious trouble with my husband over that article… Oh well.

    Dear Marjory:
Sorry to hear that your step daughter’s problem. This also remind me to pay more attention of my own health. And do as much as I can. I already brought your DVDs, love it and use it.
For cancer I do know some of friends who used good supplement and improved a lot. They are already refused by Doctor to do any treatment.
I also have one more question about backyard. Do you have any good method to keep squirrels away from the fruit trees. All my peaches, persimmons, and pears always gone before I harvest them. Thank you so much for your good work.
    Take care
    Ting

    1. Hi Ting, I have the two dogs _ Farm Dog and Five Spot, who patrol for everything from squirrels to hogs, coyotes, to raccoons.

Other than dogs, the next best option would be netting. I think…

And, I can ask our network if anyone has some good recipes for squirrel? There was an excellent contest entry last month about squirrel traps.
      Good luck!

    Hello Marjory,

I really relate to the article above. I feel your pain trying to keep your family healthy. Most people are in denial about commercial food. Especially here in Texas. I moved to Texas from California four years ago and find that I can not talk about my life style without being ridiculed. I read your articles with interest. I have managed to build a water system to collect rain water and constructed twelve 4 ft x 8 ft raised beds to grow veggies. Just recently I am the proud owner of four chickens who give me delicious eggs and lot of pleasure. If I do not live off of my garden, I buy organic and am trying very hard to start eating only raw foods. I have stayed away from processed food for 20 years and I contribute my excellent health (I am 70 years old) on my healthy diet. You are right, I hear it all the time, that people blame their health problems on genetics. If that would be true then I would have diabetes and heart problems since my mother diet from a bad heart do to diabetes when she was 72. It is true that I have a greater tendency to get diabetes hence I avoid foods that will lead me to the disease. That means that I stay away from all processed foods, avoid GMO foods such as corn, soybeans, canola oil, and alfalfa and also wheat, it contains gluten. I am thrilled that you come forth with your message of eating healthy. We must take up the live style of our forefathers in order grow old in a healthy manner. Keep up your good work, Marjory.

    Regards,
    Brigitte

A 70 yr. old chiropractor in Houston who was a pharmacist in a cancer hospital prior to becoming a chiropractor told me that iodine deficiency is a huge factor in people developing cancer. He suggests taking an iodine supplement by Biotics Research Corp. of Richmond, Tex. They sell to the public. He said take 1/2 teasp. of Real Salt (brand name sea salt) with the iodine tablet at a meal for better absorption of it. Also, I suggest the book Recaging the Beast by Jane Remington available on Barnes & Noble website. She details how overgrowth of yeast in your body gives off toxins causing numerous illnesses. Yeast is what devours the body after you die so if you have too much yeast in your system your are literally being eaten alive. There is a Yeast Free Diet to go on (approx. 21 days) to kill the yeast overgrowth and she explains all of it in her book. These 2 recommendations have helped me greatly and they can help you, too.

I am on board with treating the cause of health issues and not just the symptoms. The cause is most always related to what we eat or don’t eat, toxins, stress, lack of sleep and lack of exercise. I am a huge believer in essential oils and energy work. Thank you for all you do and keep on keeping on. What you do matters to more than you know. My 8 yr. old grandson asked for a garden for his birthday. When he tasted a vine ripened tomato, he thought I had put sugar on it!

    Marjory,
Thank you for sharing with us the experience you are having in your family. I hope it all works out for the best. I couldn’t help but feel encouraged by the fact that no matter how knowledgeable and diligent you are regarding your healthful lifestyle you still meet with resistance. It’s comforting to know that those of us that have chosen this way of living are not alone. I’ve been eating gluten free since ’98 after researching a way to rid myself of rheumatoid arthritis. After living pain free for quite a few years my own mother suggested it was all in my head that I had a problem with gluten. According to my brother, eating GF is just a choice rather than a necessity. So, I do understand and send you blessings of peace, strength and understanding. My goal is to someday have a lifestyle like you. Thank you for all that you do for all of us that benefit by your hard work.

    Take Care,

I don’t buy at the grocery store anymore we have found a farmers market and can buy in bulk until I can learn to grow my own. I agree about the corn, processed foods, chemicals, pesticides, fungicides and the big 3 food conglomerates. Its a shame our country has pushed out the local farmers and has let greed take over for the “big ones” Thanks for all you do.

Check out Jim Humble and MMS (Master Mineral Solution). According to testimonials it is affective on almost all diseases (The last I heard it had not been tested on Ebola, so I don’t know about that). My daughter used it to recover from Epstein-Barr. My neighbor used it successfully to treat her cat that got poisoned. It is far cheaper than establishment medicine, as well as light years ahead in percentage of successful treatments. Don’t believe me: try it yourself. I got mine from eBay.

Amazing I would open your email just now as I was reading a booklet from Dr. Mark Stegler telling how to kill cancer cells. Cancer can ONLY live on glucose. Stop eating everything your body will turn into glucose. Your body can live on fat. Eat no grains, pasta, sweets, soft drinks,, juices, rice, corn, fruits and starchy vegetables. Use only healthy fats like coconut oil, olive oil and avocados.
He recommends a book called The Cantin Ketogenic Diet.
Actually this booklet he set to me was written by Brian Chambers.
I am just getting ready to call my aunt in Missouri who is dealing with cancer right now.

    1. Rustaholic,

that makes a lot of sense. Oh, but cutting out glucose… that is a very tricky thing.

    2. Vickie Karp says:

Rustaholic, I have come across this same info on cancer and I believe it is the “real deal”. The difficult part is to convince our cancer-stricken friends or family members who still believe old-time government diet propaganda. Good luck, I hope they pay attention to your life-saving information!

    Fran

    1. Hi Fran,

I always appreciate your comments. I am going to get a blood test done in January. I am getting a set of ‘the top 10 tests’ which is recommended by an online lab ordering company that gives access to the testing to individuals (versus going through a doctor). Oh yes, I do go to a clinic to get the blood drawn. But I eat at least 3 eggs a day, and often much more – near 6 or so. I love eggs! And I have especially been eating a lot of bacon and sausage too. What a great excuse to eat bacon. LOL. Anyway I am interested to see if my cholesterol levels go up. In the reading of various research studies I’ve seen, cholesterol is not nearly the evil doer that it is often portrayed as.

      Good luck and talk soon!

      Marjory

I highly recommend “Grain Brain” by Dr. David Perlmutter, a 30+ year board certified neurologist who specializes in brain disorders. He draws the clearest connection between consumption of grains – of ANY type – and brain disorders including Alzheimers, Parkinson’s Disease, and dementia, as well as many other serious health problems such as diabetes and heart disease. He also explains how and why cholesterol is actually GOOD for us and how statin drugs (those taken by people trying to reduce their cholesterol) are not solving their problems, they are adding to them by endangering their brains!! YAY bacon (uncured!) YAY eggs! YAY real butter! I knew there was something terribly wrong with that “low-fat propaganda”!!

        1. I’ll second that for bacon, eggs, and butter! LOL

Marjory, with regard to your friends’ daughter, who is experiencing skin cancer. Cansema is a black salve, which, destroys either type of skin cancer, period. This is a must have for everyone’s medicine kit.
I have used Cansema personally and on numerous friends, numerous times. The salve will kill any skin cancer which is malignant. It knows ? . If a place which is non-malignant receives the treatment, nothing happens. It requires No prior diagnosis and no follow up. The entire process is complete within a couple of weeks.
Using a wooden tooth pick, Apply a small bit, sufficient to cover the spot, onto a piece of clear adhesive tape. Place the salve spot over the suspected place pressing the tape lightly. You can use a finger nail to move the salve around a bit and press the tape firmly. Put it on at bed time, wash it off in the morning. You may feel itching or redness. That’s just the salve working. If you find no response by the next morning. It wasn’t malignant. There’s nothing more to do. If it becomes uncomfortable, apply Some aloe peel a piece, do not use commercial aloe jell. It contains preservative. I also recommend applying Young Living lavender. Any other will burn the raw area or the scabed area. You will see a scab form pretty quickly. That is actually the tumor. Keep it covered, if it’s in jeopardy. Allow the scab to come off in its own time.
Alpha Omega Labs, the manufacturer can be found on Google or any search engine.
I Am unaffiliated with the manufacturer. My intention is to pass on information which was passed to me about 10 years ago and helping people heal themselves.
Be Well and don’t fear the cancer.

She found that the thing they had in common is that all of them used eyelashes that were made of real hair and applied with glue. It was the glue that caused the tumors.
